Few people are aware that Iowa is consistently one of 10 states with the highest rates of adult lead poisoning. In 2011, 26% of Iowa adults tested had an elevated blood lead level. While mmost of these exposures are linked to occupational lead exposure, a growing number of casees are being identified with other sources of exposure.
This free webinar will review adult lead exposure risks in Iowa. Updates will include the current definition of an elevated blood lead level for an adult and recent findings that low lead exposures can cause significant health problems for adults. Medical recommendations for workers, CDC guidelines for pregnant and lactating women and mandatory reporting requirements in Iowa will be reviewed. Iowa county level data for 2011 will be presented.
This is a live webinar presentation repeating the breakout session given at the 2012 Iowa Governor's Conference for Public Health on April 18.
