EMForum.org is pleased to host a one hour presentation and interactive discussion Wednesday, February 8, 2011. Our topic will be the National Weather Service Impact-based Decision Support Services (IDSS), "...the overarching paradigm from which the NWS will deliver weather, water, and climate related services," as described in its 2011 Strategic Plan. This new focus includes better understanding of societal impacts, making NWS information more relevant to decision makers, and participating directly in making decisions fundamental to the protection of life and property.

Our guests will include John Ogren, Director of NOAA's National Weather Service Training Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Prior to his current assignment, John served as Deputy Regional Director of the NWS Central Region, Meteorologist in Charge of the NWS forecast office in Indianapolis, IN, and as Warning Coordination Meteorologist both at NWS Headquarter and Wichita, KS. All of these past positions required close coordination with FEMA, state and local emergency management as well as numerous not-for-profit disaster relief organizations.

Kim Runk, Interim Director of the NWS Operations Proving Ground at the NWS Training Center will also join us. Kim's career experience ranges from working with air rescue and combat weather support teams in the US Air Force, to piloting several service enhancement initiatives with the National Weather Service. Kim led the service assessment for the 2009 Flood Events on the Red River of the North, and served on-site in the aftermath of the historic 2011 Joplin tornado, supporting the rescue and recovery mission.

Please make plans to join us, and see the Background Page for related materials and Instructions. If this will be your first time to participate, please check your connection at least a day in advance by clicking on the Live Meeting Login link. The Live Meeting client must be used in order to access the audio.
