Course Title: EOC Operations and Planning for All-Hazards (MGT-346)

Instruction Provided by: Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX)

Cost: Free. Course funded through a grant provided by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Description: This course focuses on the core functions, processes and best practices necessary to ensure effective and repeatable performance of an EOC at any level. The core functions and processes are reviewed and demonstrated via facilitated discussion and classroom activities. The participants gain practical experience via a series of interrelated activities and exercises supported by a state-of-the-art computer simulation system and are coached by instructors who have extensive emergency operations and management experience.

Audience: Personnel who currently or potentially work in an EOC at the state or local level. Disciplines include, but are not limited to: law enforcement, EMS, emergency management, fire service, government administration, communications, healthcare, public health, hazardous materials, public works, non-governmental organizations.

Venue: Course will take place at the Polk County Emergency Operations Center. This facility is a very modern and capable EOC with advanced technology with flexible and generous spaces.

Continuing Education Units: IACET - 2.4 CEUs; ACE - 2.0 hour college credit.

Prerequisites: None required, however participants should be potentially tasked to work in an EOC. They should have a working knowledge of the Incident Command System gained through FEMA's IS-100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800 courses.

Topics: The course offers the opportunity for participants to practice emergency management and to gain practical experience in individual and group processes necessary to manage an EOC. Each participant will gain a better understanding of the management requirements and skills necessary to effectively coordinate and support the response activities during a complex or large-scale incident. Dates/Times: Course is scheduled to run from 0800-1700 hours each day (September 22-24).

Lunch/Snacks: A lunch break of approximately 60 minutes will be available during the first two days. Participants may dine in the vicinity or bring their own lunch. A working lunch will be provided on day three. Coffee, water, lemonade, and light snacks provided daily.

Dress: Business casual or duty uniform is acceptable.

Parking: Free off-street parking adjacent to the building.

Attendee Reservation: The course host reserves the right to select attendees based on the best allocation of seats. Considerations include jurisdictional, disciplinary, and positional balances for course effectiveness. Registrants may be asked to forfeit their registration or have their registration cancelled due to demand and personnel balancing requirements.
